Yoga in BostonRestorative Yoga Therapeutics deliberately contrasts the active state of Western culture. This quiet, still, and safe practice is designed to relieve the mind and body from physical, mental and emotional stress. Acknowledging the governing role the nervous system plays in health and well-being, this specific style of yoga is custom-crafted, for each practitioner, to promote the relaxation response and to bring balance and awareness to the mind-body network.

Restorative yoga utilizes artfully placed props and intentional sequences designed to open and ground the body therapeutically. In supported, passive-looking poses, students practice simple breath work, mindfulness, and stillness. This approach has shown to improve sleep and digestion, promote athletic recovery, refine mental clarity, and facilitate nervous system balance.

Katherine Hartsell, RYT has been teaching both active yoga and Restorative Yoga since 2008. As a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Kathy participates in promoting studies and research to help distinguish yoga’s growing presence in the healthcare community. In 2013, Kathy will offer a limited number of private sessions for interested BSM patients. Participants will be asked to fill out an intake form, and to track response to sessions in survey/study form. In appreciation for this study participation, and in the spirit of Seva (“service”) these limited sessions, usually $125/hr, will be completely free of charge.

Please email info@www.bostonsportsmed.com if you would like to be added to a drawing for 3-5 free Restorative Yoga sessions. You may also direct any questions to this email.
